I love to see the temple

I have been thinking a lot about the temple lately, maybe because it is so central in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in bringing families together. A few years ago my Grandma asked me how often I attended the temple, I can't remember what I told her, but I made a goal right then and there that I would attended weekly, especially since I have 2 temples within 15 minutes of where I live. I am not sure how often my Grandma goes to the temple, but I know she has a 4 hour drive one way and then spends hours in the temple. I try to attend to temple whenever I am traveling and have been to 20 some odd temples now. Today I am headed to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple in West Jordan, UT.

The best thing about Temples is that the work we do within the walls enables us do be with our families forever, not just until death. This life sure would seem pointless if I didn't know that I would still have my family after death!

New calling again?

So a few posts ago I talked about getting called as a Gospel Doctrine Teacher instead of being the Gospel Principles teacher. Well that was never fulfilled...I got a new calling in the Relief Society Presidency as the Secretary. I love the girls that I serve in the presidency with and have an amazing new love for all the sisters in Relief Society. We have our first "Relief Society Meeting" tomorrow that is about the center of Christmas. I'm so excited! What a blessing this calling is at a time when I need all the blessings I can get!!

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Recently I was reading my scriptures and had an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I knew without a doubt that Heavenly Father loves me regardless of my faults. Instantly the Primary song from childhood "I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" came to my mind. The simple truths that we believe are in the text...

" I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.I know who I am.I know God’s plan.I’ll follow him in faith.I believe in the Savior, Jesus Christ.I’ll honor his name.I’ll do what is right;I’ll follow his light. His truth I will proclaim."

Amazing! Just think if the whole world knew these simple truths?!!!

The Book of Mormon

A couple of months ago our Stake Presidency challenged us to read the Book of Mormon everyday until the end of April (I think they were probably thinking until it becomes a habit). Ever since that challenge I have read everyday with the exception of one day. I know without a doubt that the Book of Mormon is true. What a blessing it has been in my life. I have noticed that since I have regularly read, I have been able to recognize the spirit easier. It isn't a book about the history of a people, but rather a book that keeps me asking, "why was this written for me?" The great thing about the Book of Mormon is that if you read it with a desire to know of its truthfulness the Holy Ghost will let you know that it is true! I don't have to twist any one's arm to read it or believe it, they have to find out for themselves how amazing it truly is.

The Essential Things

The last few days have been very busy for me. I worked extra hours at work, packed my things, celebrated my Dad's birthday, moved, went to a Halloween Party, etc... The highlight of my busy weekend was Stake Conference!

Some of you may have been wondering about the title of my blog. My favorite talk from Stake Conference is exactly what the title of my blog is about.

Milk is the simple or essential things of the gospel and life. Meat is the weightier, deeper, more complicated part. Family is the milk or most important part of the gospel. To paraphrase from the speaker~ Anything that turns us away from the family is essentially Anti-Christ. The essential things we are asked to do are the most important; these are things like scripture study, prayer, temple attendance, and family. DO NOT PUT OFF THE LITTLE THINGS! When we understand the Plan of Happiness we are gaining an eternal perspective.

So often we get caught up in the day to day things that do not matter, but if we stick to the "milk" of life we will realize that everything in this gospel revolves around the family.
